Preface

Have you ever wondered why pollen floating in water moves in an irregular dance? How do biological macromolecules complete complex folding processes? And why does the structure of materials quietly evolve over time? Behind these seemingly chaotic phenomena, there lies a fascinating connection between microscopic randomness and macroscopic statistical regularity.

To unveil the mysteries of the microscopic chemical world for everyone, we have specially organized an offline discussion event titled 'Stochastic Processes in Chemistry.' Stochastic processes are a mathematical framework for quantifying 'random phenomena that evolve over time.' This discussion will focus on stochastic processes in chemistry, introducing fundamental theories and methods to help students expand their extracurricular knowledge, provide positive support for future scientific research, and experience the unique charm of the integration of chemistry with mathematics and physics.

Speaker:

Sui Chen, a probationary member of the Communist Party of China, is an undergraduate student at Hongde College Base, class 2301, serving as the class monitor of class 2301. He is a participant in the 2024-2025 'Youth Marxist Project' university-level training program. He has been awarded the National Scholarship, the First-Class People's Scholarship, the university-level 'Three Good' Student title, and the university-level Excellent League Cadre honor. He is currently committed to studying theoretical and computational chemistry and hopes to make progress together with everyone.

Content Summary

Discussion Content of the Second Session:

A Brief Talk on Molecular Dynamics: Molecular dynamics simulation is a method that uses classical models of molecules to study molecular structures and properties. This session will introduce three types of statistical distributions and ensemble theory, and there will also be hands-on demonstrations of computational chemistry software, using specific cases to help you build a clear understanding.

Participation Details

Target Audience:
All students of Hongde College, whether you are a junior or senior undergraduate from the 2023 or 2024 cohorts interested in this field, or a freshman from the 2025 cohort just entering university, no deep professional background is required. All necessary math and physics knowledge will be covered before derivations. As long as you have a passion for exploring the microscopic world and a serious attitude, you are welcome to join! (Freshmen from the 2025 cohort are given priority)

Activity Format:
Offline discussions focusing on interactive communication, allowing every participant to fully engage and address questions in a timely manner.
